Christmas music represents some of the most joyful music composed! We sing carols of different countries, familiar holiday music and new compositions that express the joy and mystery of the season. Our Christmas Concert is entitled “Essence of Joy” for that very reason! Soli Deo Gloria presents carols from France, England, Ireland and Germany in new, exciting settings. The ensemble will perform stunning arrangements of Ave Maria, O Magnum Mysterium and Ave Generosa that tell the nativity story with glorious harmonies. We are thrilled to premiere and exciting new composition by Dr. Walter Saul, based on the Ubi Caritas text. Familiar holiday tunes and a festive carol sing-along round out our concert.
From breathtaking harmonies to ecstatic and celebratory song, Soli Deo Gloria presents music from Medieval to Modern eras, famous poets, and the music of female composers and arrangers. A skillful and glorious arrangement of Antonio Lotti’s 8-part “Crucifixus” will be featured. Also included are Clara Schuman’s lieder, music by Elaine Hagen beg and a fiery piece, “Caritas Abudat,” based on a text from 12th century muse and musician, Hidegard von Bingen, with violin, drum, and percussion. The chorale will complete the concert with exciting spirituals, Morten Lauridsen’s “Dirait-on,” and other diverse songs.
